Koats for Kids is part of United Way Winnipeg’s commitment to helping children and youth be all they can be. Since 1989, Koats for Kids has been collecting and distributing warm winter clothing to children in our community. That’s 35 years of serving children and families in our community!
- Each year we collect and distribute around 6,000 coats plus thousands more ski pants, boots, hats, mitts, and scarves. Please help us ensure no child is left in the cold by donating new or gently used winter clothing.
- United Way Winnipeg’s Koats for Kids program works directly with schools, daycares and agencies in our community to get warm winter outerwear out to children and families. If you are a parent or guardian who would like to receive warm winter clothing, please work with your child’s school, daycare, or a United Way agency partner. If you need support in finding an agency partner near you, we are happy to help find one in your neighborhood- please call us at 204-586-5628.
- Thank you to this year’s program partners and sponsors:
- Motel 6, Super 8, Delta Hotels, and Hilton Airport West for laundering donated items
- Access Storage for providing secure Cube-It storage units
- AMJ Campbell, GardaWorld, Bullwhip Logistics and our dedicated BellMTS Volunteers who help move truckloads of winter outerwear all over the city

WHAT WE NEED:
- From now until the middle of January, Koats for Kids is accepting donations of new and gently used children’s winter outerwear. We’re collecting warm winter coats, ski pants, boots, hats, mitts, and scarves for kids of all ages.
While we do our best to find generously donated items that DO NOT meet our criteria, sorting these items means delays in getting appropriate winter wear to children and families in need.
- Items we’re most in need of at this time include:
- Boots (all sizes)
- Ski pants (all sizes)
- Waterproof mittens and gloves
- Boys winter coats in sizes 5, 10, 12, 14, and 16. Winter coats for adults, too!
- Koats for Kids wouldn’t be possible without the generous support we receive from our volunteers. Volunteer roles include sorting donations and filling orders of winter outerwear. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please visit koatsforkids.ca for more information. Volunteers must be 16 or older. Limit of 6 volunteers per shift.
