What’s a Period Promise?
It’s a pledge to make sure no one misses school, work or life, because they can’t afford menstrual products. Half of everyone who menstruate in BC – women, girls, non-binary people, and trans folx – have struggled to buy products at some point in their life.
The month of May is National Menstrual Awareness month and Holly & Nira are creating their own Period Promise, creating awareness, raising money and product donations to help end period poverty in partnership with United Way British Columbia. This means that single parents don’t have to choose between buying tampons or food for their families, and trans and non-binary kids don’t need to scramble in washrooms, putting together makeshift pads that don’t suit their needs.
When people have access to the product they need, it improves their health and well-being and makes it easier for them to stay connected. Every donation of tampons, pads, cups or underwear raises awareness, reduces stigma, and tackles vulnerability and isolation caused by period poverty.
